An Interesting ExpeditionOver a frozen forest the midnight sun slowly spread its rays as it crested the horizon. The edge of the sharp peaks and shadows of deep valleys of the mountains were accentuated by the early morning light. Curled amongst the trees of the mount range’s foothills was a pack of tokotas and their trainers. Lounging atop the small boulder the group had used as a windbreaker for the night was the aged and noble Nanook. His pale blue eyes stared in the direction of the rising sun, the weak rays barely warmed the graying hairs around his muzzle eyes but the old male seemed to welcome them none-the-less. Blinking once he sat in complete silence and only flicked one of his ears at the barely audible whisper of cloth over stone as Ascerbus, one of the women in the group silently yet respectively slid into place alongside Nanook. It would soon be time to wake the rest of the group, but the two sat in comfortable silence as they listened to the sound of bir - 29HP

A Lake After Sunset Letting out little chirps of alarm a group of birds who had roosted on the roof of a small shelter fled at the angry sounds emitted from its entrance. Standing just outside of the shelter was four tokotas, three of which had trainers either seated atop their backs or standing at their sides, although all of their attention was on the small wooden structure. They had rested on the edge of town for the night, since the shed was free to use, and with the heavy snowfall the night before it had been a welcome relief to sleep on dry ground. But one of the group was in a foul mood and not overly willing to leave the relative comfort so early in the morning.

[Exp.] Lost and FoundAvalik fidgeted with Almost’s tack once more, making sure it was centered on her back and dust free. But no matter how much she tried to preoccupy her mind, her stomach continued to roll in knots. She was terribly nervous, for a number of stupid reasons.
For some reason she had signed up to lead an expedition with a group of perfect strangers. Except for Beygo. She met Beygo at the WTCA Facility in Neah Bay at a halter competition. She had wanted to enter Janus for the Halter Class, but needed to know what she was getting to. During her stay, she and Beygo became fast friends over local brews at the dive on the edge of town.
Beygo did not have any Tokotas of his own. He had gone to the show in Washington to support his brother and his brother’s family’s finest Tokota Reed’s Deeds Lead, who placed first in the Liberty Class. He and Avalik talked about the unusual nature of Tokotas and Tokota culture, the disparities between treating them as house pets, livestock - 16HP

Follow the Wayward Pup The day was unusually warm for the middle of winter, with the temperatures hanging above freezing. It made for the perfect day for Thom to sneak away from the pack. The small seal pup had only recently been picked up by Ascerbus, and had yet to get close to any of his new packmates. With green eyes narrowed in distrust and skepticism Thom crept through a small gap in the back of an empty stall. It had recently been given a temporary patch job to keep out scavengers, but was weak to pressure from the inside, which Thom took advantage of as he pushed the board free with one shoulder before slipping outside. Shaking out his coat the seal male crouched low, carefully observing his surroundings to make sure no-one was around before quickly sneaking out of the clearing, pausing for only a few short seconds to look back at the clearing before disappearing into the shadows.

[Exp.] Branching OutThe small party of six Tokotas and five riders was moving along at a steady pace. The sun shone down on them kindly, warming what Janus the brown and tundra male had feared would be a cold day. He wasn’t ready for this, he had no idea he was going out for a walk with a bunch of strangers. He tensed his back muscles, wishing the man--Ian, his handler had called him--would sense his distaste and get off immediately. And to make matters worse, the man’s Toki had tagged along for the walk.
“Hey, your eyes are two different colors!” the diminutive half-mane piped up after having flanked Janus on either side, swapping back and forth since they left and driving him nuts. “One’s grey like mine,” he explained, as his young mind assured him this needed further explanation, “and the other one is yellow! Why are they like that? Do you know where we’re going? Do you know when dinner’s going to be ready?”

THE FRESH SPRING DAY DAWNED cool and clear over the little village nestled at the base of the mountains; birds sang their bright greetings to the morning as the night hunters returned to their dwellings and once more turned the world over to those who owned the sunlight. Nerissa stood outside her cozy hut and sipped her coffee from her battered tin cup, glancing at the steadily brightening sky.
They're late, she thought to herself. Impatient by nature, she herself had been packed and ready to go out on her first hunting trip for over an hour. She never liked to be late, and considered herself "on time" only if she was ten minutes early or more.

Stalking caribou Maria had decided to take the group of seven out with her again. The seven including Alcina, Tutela, Tierney, Lucina, Oprah, Mauja and finally Charger. Lately she had been going out with larger masses of Tokotas. Usually it would make her adventure all the more fun, however that was usually when they were exploring a new place or taking a trip down to the lake and try and see who could catch the most fish. Hunting on the other hand was a whole other kettle of fish. It was chaotic, a little bit messy- actually it was a lot messy, the last time they went caribou hunting- with this lot especially she was pretty sure she spent the majority of her time when she got home trying to get the blood out of all their maws and paws. It was not a fun time.
Tierney had pushed Lucina into following her on the charge of the caribou. The large dire let out a sound that was practically a bellow as she ran at the herd. Her large paws hitting the ground in thuds as she went. Lucina clung to her side, the g - 15HP

Long Travels The low, echoing call of an elk rolled through the cold morning air. A solitary jet black elk seemed to glide amongst stunted tundra trees as it let out another haunting bugle. It was a beautiful sight, until the realization hit that the animal was far too north for its species, and upon closer inspection stood nearly two feet taller than an average bull. Stranger still, was what happened in response to his calls.
Tutela, a massive, golden tundra tokota stepped out of the morning mist to stand alongside him, her shoulders a few inches higher than those of the elk. Lowering her head slightly in a show of respect she shifted to turn her lavender gaze to four pale silhouettes behind her. Tail raising slightly in a show of dominance as she let out a low, commanding growl for them to come forward.
The first to follow her instructions was another dire tokota, the barred male Yabloko. Slightly shorter and thinner than the female, he was still a - 17HP

Waterfalls and Clearings The still morning air was broken by the harsh sounds of conflict. Within a clearing adjacent a partially frozen river, two tokotas were locked in battle. The first, Kitetsu, a pale curly male was glaring with pale green eyes and bared his teeth at the lilac female who stood across from him. Her head also lowered with teeth showing. Meeting his gaze squarely, her own dark blue eyes glowing with the force of her will. A long gash ran down one of Siha’s forelegs, but she paid the wound no heed as she planted herself stoutly in front of the crouched form of another tokota. A small, exceedingly fluffy pup glared at the curly from behind Siha. Inti, as she was named, was an adolescent barbary female, her coat a golden tawny in color. A mixture of snow, dead grass and leaves covered her fur and clotted in the line of a scratch running along her body. Puppy ears flipped around and she turned away from the conflict at the sound - 18HP

Bird hunting. Maria could feel the ground biting into her hands, the sticks and twigs and little shards of stone were seemingly getting harder and harder the longer she knelt on the ground. She puffed out one more breath of air before looking off to her side where Alcina, her brown half mane was also crouched. She wasn’t the only one however, Mauja and Oprah was there also. All three of them perfectly still and incredibly silent. Being next to them Maria could help but feel each breath and blink was ten times too loud and if it was any louder she knew the pheasants in the clearing a few yards ahead of her were going to spook and bolt right away. She couldn’t have that. Not with a whole pack of Tokotas with her.
Alcina, Mauja and Oprah weren’t the only ones with her. Tierney, Lucina, Tutela and Charger.
